Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary former manager of Manchester United, enjoyed a remarkable day in horse racing on Friday, securing two significant victories that collectively brought in approximately £500,000 in prize money.
At Cheltenham’s esteemed November meeting, Ferguson’s novice hurdler, Potters Charm, clinched a decisive win in a Grade Two novice hurdle. Simultaneously, in Bahrain, Ferguson witnessed his seven-year-old gelding, Spirit Dancer, triumph in the $1 million Bahrain International Trophy for the second consecutive year, earning a first prize of £472,441.
Spirit Dancer, trained by Richard Fahey in North Yorkshire, showcased resilience and skill. Jockey Oisin Orr guided the gelding to overtake Lead Artist, trained by John & Thady Gosden, in the final strides of the race. This victory adds to Spirit Dancer’s impressive record, which includes a previous win in Saudi Arabia, bringing his career earnings to over £2 million.
“It’s a fantastic feat, what Richard and the team back home have done, credit to them to get him back from injury,” said co-owner Ged Mason, who commended the team’s efforts.
